The brief

This collection of engaging and fun educational games allows primary school children to develop their grammar, punctuation and spelling, and can be accessed on a desktop or tablet, from school or at home.

Working with the e-learning supremos at Lancashire Digital, we took the client's excellent illustration and animation files, and created template-driven, dynamically populated, touch-friendly HTML5 games.

The approach

Activities within each game challenge the user to interact in different ways: drag and drop words and phrases, typing text into a sentence, selecting correct words from a list, or highlighting text in a paragraph. As users progress and learn they are rewarded with sounds and animations. The weapon of choice to achieve all this was CreateJS, with its javascript libraries and tools. With the development team's Javascript expertise and our long history of working with Flash, we really hit the ground running.

The result

The games have been launched as part of Pearson's Grammar and Spelling Bug literacy resources. The games have gone down extremely well with the schools and are used daily.

Taking an idea from concept to reality is one of Ben's strengths. On this particular project, we managed to overcome several technical hurdles, as these games really pushed the capabilities of some web browsers
