Futera World Football website
A global football game where you buy cards, register them online and play against people all over the world
Futera's collectable, high-quality cards feature world-class football stars and are sold through retail outlets in several international markets. I was approached to oversee and help bring the static world of card-collecting into an engaging online experience.
The Futera World Football website allows people to create an account and add players to their online squad by registering player card codes (found on the back of each card). As part of the game, users become managers and take charge of all team decisions, choosing the best formations and tactics, and then playing tournaments against other managers from all over the world.
The cards are on sale in Hong Kong, Denmark, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore and Sweden, and will be rolling out to more countries very
soon. The game was recently advertised on a billboard on the The World Trade Center, Hong Kong, which was really great moment for everyone involved.
From a development point of view, the site embraces Web 2.0 concepts, utilising the jQuery library and AJAX for seamless page updates and intuitive interactivity. This means the user is able to register cards, look back through tournament history, view global- and country-based leagues, and change their team kit, all on one page. At the end of each week, the system promotes or demotes teams based on their ranking.
There are now more than 4000 registered users on this community-driven site.
Ssssh! Can you keep a secret?
Ok, this is kinda hush, hush but as it’s you…
As part of the continued success of Futera World Football an iPhone application is in development. Among other features the app will allow users to browse their card collections on their iPhone or iPod Touch.
The app is set for a 2010 launch.
If you're interested in creating an iPhone application then why not
drop me a line?
